What is a turbo inlet
When you are busy optimizing your turbo engine, sooner or later the part will come turbo inlet past. At first glance it looks like a simple tube, but make no mistake: the turbo inlet plays a crucial role in the air supply to your turbo – and therefore your power, throttle response and turbo pressure.
But what exactly is a turbo inlet, and why is an upgrade so popular with tuners?
What is a turbo inlet?
A turbo inlet is the part that directs the air from the intake (air inlet) to the inlet side of the turbo leads. Think of it as the air intake pipe to the turbocharger. The shape, diameter, and material of this pipe directly affect the amount of air the turbo can draw in—and therefore your engine's performance.
What does an upgraded turbo do not do?
The standard turbo inlet is with many cars:
Relatively narrow of diameter
Made of plastic
Deformable under pressure
Not optimal in terms of air flow (restrictions, bends, ridges)
