What is an intercooler?
An Intercooler is an air-to-air or air-to-water cooler that reduces the Intake air temperature of a turbocharged engine. When air is compressed by a turbocharger, it heats up. But hot air contains less oxygen – and that is detrimental to combustion.

How does an intercooler work?
The principle is simple but crucial. The compressed (hot) air from the turbo flows through the intercooler, where it is cooled by airflow (in air-to-air systems) or coolant (in air-to-water systems). The cooled air then moves to the Intake, where it is forced into the engine under pressure.
The cooler the air, the better the combustion – and the more power you get from the same amount of fuel.
Types of intercoolers
