The CTS Intercooler kit is a direct replacement for the original front-mount Intercooler on the 2012 and 2013 Volkswagen Golf 6 R 2.0T. No cutting or modification of the bumper is required.
The original Intercooler copes well with the standard boost pressure, but following an ECU upgrade, it struggles to keep the charge air at the correct temperature. This leads to boost cut and ignition retardation, resulting in a drop in power.
The CTS Intercooler uses a high-efficiency bar-and-plate core that minimises pressure drop. A lower pressure drop means the turbo does not have to work as hard to achieve the desired boost pressure. For example, if a turbo delivers 30 psi with a pressure drop of 10 psi across the intercooler, the ECU will only read 20 psi. CTS’s efficient design therefore extends the turbo’s service life and delivers cooler, denser charge air, resulting in more power.
