The TTE420 is an advanced K04-frame hybrid turbocharger for VAG models fitted with the 2.0 TSI EA888.1 engine. This turbo starts out as a brand-new, original BorgWarner K04-064, which is completely dismantled, redesigned and optimised by TheTurboEngineers to create a powerful, efficient and virtually OEM-fit upgrade.
At the heart of the TTE420 is a much larger, latest-generation 2871X TTE billet compressor wheel with ultra-thin blades. This results in an extremely high airflow for its size and a very wide compressor map. The compressor housing is CNC-machined to precise tolerances for maximum efficiency. The original PCV port is sealed off and replaced with a TTE smooth-flow billet cover plate, whilst the inlet pipe is CNC-milled and hand-finished for a smooth transition and optimum airflow.
On the exhaust side, a much larger BorgWarner K16 turbine and shaft are fitted, whilst the K04 core is retained. This K16 turbine is trimmed and lightened, which lowers back pressure, reduces EGTs and enables safely higher boost levels. Despite this larger turbine, the response remains virtually identical to the standard K04, with significant gains in power and torque.
The turbo is also fitted with a TTE CNC silencer delete, a billet boost adapter, and a CNC billet TTE Recirculation Valve adapter, which allows the original VAG Recirculation Valve to be retained for OEM fit and trouble-free operation. A TTE-developed 360° Motorsport bearing system ensures durability under high loads without compromising transient response. The actuator used is an upgraded OE unit with spring-loaded action and reinforced clamps.
Each TTE420 is multi-balanced, including high-speed VSR balancing up to 250,000 rpm, and supplied with a numbered balance test report. Software recalibration is required.
